Windy Arbour was a coal mine in the Winstanley district of Wigan in lancashire, and this small booklet collects together 24 full page pencil sketches showing scenes from the colliery in the years since it closed.
The artist lived within walking distance of the pit, and she provides a fascinating snapshot of the site in the early 1980's.
From the inside first page: The artist explores the subject from every conceivable angle, discovering many striking and distinctive compositional ideas in the process. Weeds, planks with pronounced wood grain, rubble, derilict huts and discarded machinery, all contribute to a vivid overall picture....
Condition of the booklet is generally ok. The cover has some minor scuffs and blemishes, and some light wear along the edges, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is some light creaseing to a few pages, and very light rusting around the staples, which has caused very small amounts of discolouration to the inside pages immeadiately around the staples.
