Birley East was a coal mine in the Shire Brook valley in Sheffield, and this book provides a fascinating and detailed history of the pit. It opened in the late 1880's, and remained in operation until the middle of the Second World War, when the last coal was mined. Sections in the book include:

  • Birley East Colliery 1888-1943

  • The arrival of the railway

The book includes several black and white photographs as well as three full page maps at the rear of the book

Condition of the booklet is generally ok. The cover has several scuffs, blemishes and creases, and some light nibbling along the edges, but the spiral binding is intact and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
