Trolley Trips - Newcastle, Teesside, Reading, and Bournemouth, by Stan Ledgard
Published by Bobtail Press in 2010, 64 pages. A5 size booklet (N5199)
Stan Ledgard worked on the Trolleybuses in Bradford for many years, and in this fascinating booklet he collects together around 100 black and white photographs he took of vehicles working across England (There are generally two photographs per page). All the photographs have captions describing what is seen, and a couple of the captions are given below to provide an idea of the sorts of photographs included in the booklet:
Newcastle - 586 passes Morden Street junction on route 41 Heaton Road
Teesside - At North Ormesby, being a terminus for both routes, it was common to see two trolleys standing there. Trolley 7 waits behind a motorbus and another trolley, in the 'shopping street'
From the introduction: in the course of my work in the 1960's, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit several English trolleybus towns. At some places I stayed a few days, and at others only a few hours. Most of the systems were contracting - some in their final weeks of survival.
The route diagrams in this booklet relate to the system at the time of my visit. Being a photographer, not a trolleybus expert, I havn't a clue about the make of vehicles and so on, and hopefully you will just enjoy the nostalgia of the images. The majority of the photographs are previously unpublished...
