Book published by Sang-E-Meel (Lahore) in 2004, 292 pages. Hardback (N4535WSOU6)

Originally published in 1911, this book is a first hand account of events during the Siege of Lucknow, which took place during the Indian Mutiny. This book is a detailed and full facsmilie of the earlier edition, and includes a fold out map at the rear showing Lucknow during the siege.

From the title page: This book includes a brief history of Lucknow and Oudh and their rule under the Native Government up to the time of annexation by the British in 1856-57, as well as a comprehensive narration of the events during the Mutiny, with a detailed plan of the entrenched position of the British garrison at Lucknow in 1857. Chapters include:

  • A brief history of Oudh and its rule under the Native Government, up to its annexation by the British in 1857
  • A narrative of the startling events at Lucknow in 1857, with a graphic account of the investment of the residency
  • A short biography of the Kings of Oudh, with a geographical sketch of the province
  • A guide to the places of interest in Lucknow
  • A guide to the Residency, with plans of the garrisons positions and cemetery

The condition of the book is generally ok, and is perfect as a reading copy or reference for study. The cover boards have some minor scuffs and blemishes, and light bumping along the edges and corners, but the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Their is some light foxing to the outside page leaves, and a small bookshop stamp (from Islamabad in Pakistan!) on the first inside page. Also, as is usual for books published in India and Pakistan, the paper used is thinner than we are used to.
