The Militant Suffragette Movement in York, by Krista Cowman

Published by the University of York Borthwick Papers in 2008, 38 pages. A5 size booklet (N3561)

The Flamboyant campaign of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) drew many women into the fight for votes, and this fascinating booklet looks at the use of militant tactics in York, and at the web of interconnected regional militant activities, including the Doncaster arson campaign of 1913.

The booklet also examines the role of key York WSPU members including Violet Key Jones, Annie Pearson & Mrs Coultate, their involvement in activism and York's place in a shadowy national network of support that sought to undermine the Cat and Mouse Acts, by providing a network of safe-houses for released prisoners.

Condition of the booklet is excellent. The cover is bright and tidy, the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
