The Life and Family of William Penn - 260 Years of Bloody Colonial History, by Jim McNeill
Published by the Bristol Radical History Group, 28 pages. A5 size booklet (N4905P1)
This booklet provides a fascinating short account of the Penn family and their role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade and European settlement and expansion in North America.
The Penn family played a significant part in the English Civil War and the colonisation of Ireland, Jamaica and the East Coast of North America, and yet very little is known of them. Even in Bristol, where the family had strong local connections, people are largely unaware of the role they played, as pro-Monarchy and anti- Republican, and as slave owners and slave traders, who amassed huge wealth by defrauding Native Americans out of vast areas of land.....
Condition of the booklet is generally excellent. The cover is clean and tidy, the staple spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Has a small price sticker on the rear side cover
