From the foreword: The 10th Foot was raised by the Earl of Bath in 1685. The first territorial connection with the County of Lincolnshire dates from 1782, but it was not until 1881 that the Regiment officially became the Lincolnshire Regiment, although the title of io" Foot has always been retained in addition by Regimental custom. In 1946 King George VI graciously conferred the title of Royal on the Regiment in recognition of its services.

In the 1960 The Royal Lincolnshire Regiment was amalgamated with The Northamptonshire Regiment and 275 years of distinguished service as a single County Regiment came to an end. The official history of the Regiment since 1685 has been faithfully recorded and published in various volumes, but the last of these covers the years 1919-1950 which leaves a gap of 10 years until the amalgamation in 1960.

This last decade has now happily been filled in this admirable little book and the Regimental Trustees are very pleased, after several false starts, to have found an author to write this final chapter in the History of the 10th Foot. Major Geoffrey Moore is well qualified for this task. He served in The Northamptonshire Regiment and has written several books on various aspects of military history. The decade covered by this booklet includes some very historically important post-war tasks entrusted to the Regiment particularly during its service in the Middle East and Malaya. Geoffrey Moore has fulfilled his task by producing a booklet which is easily readable as well as historically accurate. He has concentrated on writing the story from the point of view of all ranks, and it will be of intense interest to all those who served in the Regiment at some time during that ten years. To those who did not it will provide a fascinating story of Regimental history during the very difficult years immediately following the end of the war.
