From the rear side cover: This fascinating book is the first and only comprehensive and thorough history of this West Cumbrian town. It covers the period from earliest times to 1865. Beginning with the arrival of the Romans at Burrow Walls, and chronicles the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings that followed. You can read about almost eight hundred years of the life and times of the influential Curwen family; and the history of Workington Hall. Naturally, also included is substantial information on Workington's once rich and important Coal, Iron and Shipbuilding industries. As well as a detailed account of the development of the town, it's streets and buildings (including all churches and schools), plus of course it's ancient harbour. Together with very much more...

The condition of the book is generally very good. The covers have one or two minor scuffs, and some light wear along the edges and corners, but the spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
