The History of the RAF at North Weald, by F.W.G. Hitchcock

Published by the North Weald Airfield Museum, 52 pages. A5 size booklet (S6729)

RAF North Weald was a fighter station during the Battle of Britain, and was a key Royal Air Force airfield during the Second World War. Situated in Epping Forest near to the village of North Weald Bassett, the airfield continues to be used today (although not for military purposes), and this booklet charts the history and role of the airfield when it was used by the RAF (a period roughly between 1916 and 1958).
This booklet thus provides an excellent history of the airfield before and during the Second World War, and is illustrated throughout with lots of black and white photographs. There is also a list of squadrons that served at North Weald between 1916 and 1958, and further lists showing North Weald Officers in 1927, and Station strength in 1931.
Condition of the booklet is generally ok. The cover has some minor scuffs and blemishes, and some light wear along the edges, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound
