The Final Years - A History of the Sherwood Foresters 1957-1970, by Cliff Housley
Book published by tMiliquest. 168 pages. Paperback (N4961)
From the rear side cover: The Sherwood Foresters were known world wide as one of the most famous regiments in the British Army, with a long and glorious history in the service of the crown.
The majority of the history of the Sherwood Foresters has been written, from the formation of the regiment in 1741, up to and including the year 1957. But since that time no-one has ventured to set down the history of the final 13 years of the regiment before it lost its individual title on amalgamation with the Worcestershire Regiment in 1970 (to form the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment).
The period in question (1957 to 970), saw the Sherwood Foresters engaged in two active service campaigs. The first in 1958/59 against the communist terrorists in Malaya, the second was in a Peace Keeping role in Cyprus in 1963/64.
This history is set down by one who served with the Regiment for the whole of the period in question. As a result, first hand information on the service of the regiment is presented in a most interesting way. Not only are the basic actions, changes and movements of the regiment presented in a chronological sequence, but they ae interlaced with many anecdotes and personal memories, and supported by many previously unpublished photographs.
The condition of the book is generally excellent. The covers are clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
