Subtitled 'The Service Battalions of the Durham Light Infantry'

Published by Cassell and Company in 1920, 380 pages. Hardback - c.14cm by 21.5cm (A47N1WSO)

As far as I know, even though this book is Volume II, the first volume was never published!

From the preface: This  volume appears in advance of that which will carry forward the History of the Durham Light Infantry (68th and 106th Regts) through the Great War and will also include the War History of the First Line Territorial Battalions of the Regiment. The explanation is to be found in the regrettable decease of Colonel
the Hon. W. L. Vane while engaged upon this task which was to form a continuation of his earlier Work. The following pages deal with the eleven Service Battalions of the Durham Light Infantry in such a manner as to bring them all within the compass of a single volume.

I am deeply indebted to those who have put them selves to much trouble in assisting me with their personal knowledge of events; they number far too many for
me to mention them all by name. My grateful acknowledgments are also due to the courteous staff of the Historical Section (Military Branch) of the Committee of Imperial Defence and I have to thank the Durham Territorial Force Association for their advice and assistance on many occasions.

Comes with all 5 foldout loose leaf maps inserted into a pocket on the inside rear cover.

The condition of the book is generally ok. The green cover boards have some minor scuffs and blemishes, bumping and wear along the edges and corners, and a small 1cm tear in the extreme top right hand corner. The spine is tight and intact and all pages are intact and tightly bound. There is some light foxing to the inside front covers and some inside pages, and yellowing throughout.
