Book published by Folly Publications in 2002, 104 pages. Paperback (N5598)

This book provides a fascinating account of the castles of Wessex, and is illustrated throughout with lots of small black and white photographs, as well as drawings, maps and floor plans.

From the rear side cover: This book is a comprehensive guide to the history and architecture of 115 castellated buildings dating from the late 11 th century to the mid 16th century in Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Somerset and Wiltshire. Following an introduction describing the development of fortified buildings in these areas are five gazetteers illustrated with many photographs and plans. The book includes stone castles, mottes and ring works which only ever had timber buildings and palisades, moated or embattled manor houses, tower houses, town defences, and several of the artillery forts built by Henry VIII to defend the south coast.

The condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is an old price printed and a small price sticker on the rear side cover.
