This book provides a fascinating account of the castles of the East Midlands, and is illustrated throughout with lots of small black and white photographs, as well as drawings, maps and floor plans.
From the rear side cover: This book is a comprehensive guide to the history and architecture of about 160 medieval castellated buildings in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. The book includes not only the well known stone castles but also ringworks and motte and bailey sites which only had timber buildings, plus moated or fortified houses, tower houses and town defences. following an introduction describing the development of these buildings are six gazetteers lavishly illustrated with plans, photographs and drawings.
The condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is an old price printed and a small price sticker on the rear side cover, and the left and right hand edges of the book curve very gently upwards from where the book has been stored flat on the shelves.
