The Castles of Gloucestershire and Bristol, by Mike Salter
Booklet published by Folly Publications in 2002, 40 pages. A5 size booklet (N5621)
This book provides a fascinating account of the castles in and around Gloucestershire and Bristol, and is illustrated throughout with lots of black and white photographs.
From the rear side cover: This book is a comprehensive guide to the history and architecture of 34 castellated buildings dating from the late 11th century into the early 16th century in Gloucestershire and Bristol. Following an introduction describing the development of fortified buildings in this area is a gazetteer illustrated with many photographs and plans. The book includes stone castles, moated or embattled manor houses, town defences, and the earthworks of motte and bailey or ringwork sites which only ever possessed timber framed buildings and palisades.
The condition of the booklet is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, the staple spine is tight and intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is an old price printed and small price sticker on the rear side cover.
