From the front inside fly leaf: The Parish of Stourton Caundle is located in the heart oft he Blackmore Vale, in rural North Dorset. The Book of Stourton Caundle records the 20th-century history of the village in words and images. The photographs used portray every aspect of village life, from farming, housing, church and school, to public services, leisure activities and the celebration of special events. A chapter on the childhood memories of Frank Palmer who has resided in the village since 1920 is also included, together with his wartime memories as a member of the Home Guard. The photographs selected come from every decade of the century and wherever possible names have been put to the faces in the group photographs. A large number of the photographs were taken by Jo Walden, a lifelong village resident who also worked as a photographer, transporting his equipment around the countryside on his motorbike and side car.

The stories of the changes In farming practices and farm ownership, the sad loss of so many thatched cottages and the restoration of St Peter's Church, the closure of the school, shop and chapel, and the building of a new village hall, are told here, in words and in picrures, in The Book of Stourton Caundle.
