Booklet published by Fleur de Lys in 1994, 62 pages. Square Booklet - c.21cm by 20cm (S7932)
From the foreword: Following the end of the Great War a committee was formed to coordinate the preparation of the histories of the various 'Manchester Pals' battalions and to raise funds to enable these to be published. In the event sufficient funds were raised to cover only the combined history of the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th battalions - the 1st City Brigade. This was published in 1923 by Messrs Sherratt and Hughes. The histories of the 20th, 21st, 22nd & 23rd Battalions remained as unpublished type scripts.
In 1932 the 21st Manchester Old Boys Association became aware of the manuscript of their own history and decided that, after various gaps in the narrative had been filled in, it should be published. The completed history was published in 1934. That edition is long out of print, but interest in the Pals Battalions continues and this edition is published by the Trustees of The Manchester Regiment Collection of The King's Regiment.
Contents include: Foreword, Formation and Training, Embarkation and Early Days in France By Col. W.W. Norman, DSO, The Capture of Mametz and "High Wood", Munich Trench - Croisilles, and Bullecourt - Colonel Norman's Farewell, The Ypres Front- "Polygon Wood" and Gheluvelt, The Italian Campaign, The Return to France and the End of the Battalion, Honours List, Roll of Honour.
The condition of the booklet is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs, and some light nibbling along the edges, but the staple spine is tight and intact and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
