Published by Sutton in 1996, 128 pages. Paperback (S6697)
This rare book is a fascinating pictorial history of Stratford, West Ham and Canning Town in London's East End, and is packed full with black and white photographs showing the area and its buildings and people in the lat 19th and early 20th centuries.
Drawn from family albums, local collections and professional photographers, the photographs show the way things were and how they have changed. Every photograph is captioned, providing names and dates where possible, revealing historical and anecdotal detail and giving life to the scenes and personalities captured through the camera lens. Bringing together all aspects of daily life - celebrations and disasters, work and leisure, people and buildings - the collection offers a wonderful insight into the social history of the East End in decades gone by....
Condition of the book is generally very good. The cover has one or two minor scuffs and blemishes, and some light nibbling along the edges, but spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound
