Steward or Sorcerer's Apprentice?, Volumes 1 and 2, by J.H.J van der Pot
Steward or Sorcerer's Apprentice?, The Evaluation of Techincal Progress - A Systematic Overview of Theories and Opinions, Volumes I and II, by Johan Hendrik Jacob van der Pot
Both Hardbacks, published by Eburon in 1994, total pages 1436 (S8295BWSO)
From the rear side cover of both volumes: Whereas in earlier centuries technical inventions had, in the main, a random character and increased at a relatively slow tempo, in the last two centuries technical progress is pursued consciously and methodically, with far-reaching effects on the entire culture.
This work is an attempt to classify systematically the thinking that has been done on the effects, meaning and control of technical progress. This has necessitated an examination not only of the great works of philosophy, sociology, cultural anthropology, theology, history and literature, but also of that anonymous intellectual history which is set down in newspapers, encyclopaedias, catalogues of industrial exhibitions, political speeches, letters, sermons etc.
The condition of the books are generally very good. The covers have some minor scuffs, and some light wear and bumping along the edges and corners but are clean and bright, the spines are tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
