This booklet provides an excellent history of the building of steam wooden warships at Portsmouth dockyards in the 1830's and 1840's, and includes sections on:
- The start of steam warship building at Portsmouth Dockyard 1832-41
- Start of work on the New Steam Basin 1841-44
- The first Screw-propelled ships
- The Steam Basin and the early work of the dockyard engineering department 1847-52
Condition of the booklet is generally good. The cover has some minor scuffs and blemishes, and some light nibbling and wear along the edges, and their is an old price sticker on the front cover, but the staple spine is intact and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
