Saxilby Past and Present - A Century of Change

Booklet published by The History of Saxilby & District Group, 90 pages. Rectangular booklet - c.21cm by 15cm (N5349)

This booklet is a fascinating pictorial history of the the West Lincolnshire village of Saxilby, and is packed full of photgraphs showing 'then and now'. On the left hand page is a photograph showing a scene or street or building from decades ago, and on the right hand side is the same view taken today - in this way the booklet builds up a wonderful account of how Saxilby used to be and how the place has changed over the last one hundred years...

From the introduction: Saxilby is fortunate in having a wealth of the original photographs dating from the early 20th century. We have three photographers to thank for this heritage - William Dennis (the local chemist), Edward Parman (shopkeeper) and John W Turner (portrait photographer). All the original photographs come from the John Wilson collection. Fortunately, for both historians and the History Group, John has been an avid postcard collector for many years. Without his enthusiasm, this book would not have been possible.

In addition to the photographs, four paintings feature in colour on the centre pages. We have been unable to identify the artist and date for two of them; we assume they date from the 1930's.

Condition of the booklet is generally excellent. The covers are clean and bright, the staple spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is a small price sticker on the rear side cover
