Remembered - The Men on the Mareham-le-Fen War Memorial, by Mike Hodgson

Published by Lancfile, 74 pages. Paperback (N6291PE)

This book provides fascinating details of 25 men from the Lincolnshire village of Merham-le-Fen who served and died in the First and Second World Wars (This includes 15 men featured on the village war memorial who served and died in the First World War and 4 men who fought and died in the Second World War, as well as the details of 6 men who are not recorded on the war memorial).

From the rear side cover: Mareham-Ie-Fen is a typical Lincolnshire village situated seven miles to the east of Horncastle, between the fen edge and the foothills of the Lincolnshire Wolds. In 1914 the population was only 661 but, according to the 2001 census, this has now grown to over 2,000 inhabitants. The village is in an agricultural area and in the years before the two World Wars the majority of the young men from the village were involved in farm work; either farmers' sons or as farm labourers. This did not stop many of them going off to fight for King and Country, some of them paying the ultimate sacrifice, witnessed now by the list of names on the village war memorial. Like so many of the country's war memorials only the names of the fallen are recorded. This book now adds the background story to those names...
