The Derwent Valley Light Railway became Britain's last surviving independent standard gauge pre-grouping Light Railway. It was seen by many as an alternative to the Beeching cuts in the 1960s and 1970s, gaining an enthusiastic following as a result. Rails Along The Derwent features over 290 photographs, most never published in book form before, with easy to follow colour maps and plans. It tells the story of the railway from its origins right up to the present day, including the key role it played in World War Two.
There are also sections on the locomotives, including some pioneering forms of motive power, and rolling stock. Those that worked on the line are also featured, as well as the revival of one section of the railway as an operating entity once more. The book also features a foreword by well known television antiques expert and railway enthusiast, Paul Atterbury.
