From the rear side cover: This is the first history of the Chelmsford and District Trades Union Council since it was formed in 1899. It's story embraces the development of local trade union branches from 1785 and the birth of the Labour Party, the Workers Educational Association, and the Co-operative movement, and it also covers the growth of local industry, the hunger marches, women's suffrage, and the General Strike.

The book also highlights international events such as the Russian Revolution, the Spanish Civil War, the two World Wars, and their effect on the Labour movement in Chelmsford

Condition of the book is generally good. The cover has some scuffs, blemishes and creases, and nibbling and wear along the edges and corners, as well as some colour fading along the outside spine, but the spine itself is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Their is light yellowing to the inside page edges throughout
