From the authors note: In the compilation of these Notes I have naturally made use of much information contained in papers and pamphlets connected with the subject which have appeared from time to time in the Transactions of the Devonshire Association, or have been published separately, and I desire gratefully to acknowledge my indebtedness to the writers of them, especially the late Mr. Davidson and Dr. Lake. Much of the matter has been obtained directly from the Record Office.

I also wish to thank the many friends who have lent me, or brought to my notice, prints, maps, or other materials. My thanks are especially due to the Dean and Chapter of Exeter for permission to reproduce the two early Charters; to Mr. Palairet for the like permission with regard to the maps of 1759 and 1805; to Dr. Lake who has allowed me to copy two of his pictures, the old Fort and Teignmouth, 1824; and to Mr. W. F. C. Jordan for leave to copy his picture of West Teignmouth Church and the Church Brief.

The condition of the book is generally ok. The green cover boards have some minor scuffs and blemishes, and light bumping and wear along the edges and corners, but the spine is intact and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. The inside pages have been left rough-cut from the time of printing.
