Newhaven Fort and Garrison, by Keith Brain, subtitled 'Newhaven Fort and Newhaven Garrison during the Great War 1914-1918'
Book published by Reveille in 2014, 190 pages. Paperback (N5747)
From the rear side cover: This book set out to provide a detailed examination of New haven Fort during the Great War and to identify the men, as far as possible who served in the Fort, and to describe the activities taking place there.
During the research it was soon found that the Fort was an integral part of Newhaven Garrison with thousands of servicemen from various units billeted in and around the town as well as inside the Fortress itself. It was necessary, therefore, to extend the scope of this book to identify and provide details about the other units and the activities of the Newhaven Garrison to best describe the role that Newhaven Fort played during the war, especially as part of the Garrison.
Some answers to some intriguing scenarios arise as a result: Newhaven Fort, town and harbour were never attacked or invaded during the war. What if Newhaven had been subjected to a hostile attack or invasion? What kinds of attack were expected? How and by whom would any hostile attack have been repulsed? The answers to these questions may be found in this book...
The condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is an old price printed and a small price sticker, both on the rear side cover.
