Memories of the Salford Blitz, Christmas 1940, by Simon Wright.
Published by Neil Richardson in 1987, 30 pages. A4 size booklet (N4091P1)
This book provides a fascinating account of the bombing of Salford in Manchester over the Christmas period in 1940, and is illustrated throughout with lots of black and white photographs.
From the introduction: It should have been a weekend of happiness - of reunited families, with husbands and sons sent home on leave. A time of christmas preperations, of planning parties and fun. A time of children eagerly awaiting christmas day. But this wasn't to be. For the two previous nights our neighbours in Liverpool had taken a bad beating and we all knew we were to be next, although we hoped, with christmas so near, our cities might be spared, at least for a while.
But the might of the German Airforce, with its incendiaries, high explosive bombs and land mines was coming, to cause destruction and damage on a scale we had never thought possible.Condition of the booklet is excellent. The cover is clean and tidy, the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Their is an old price printed on the front cover and a small price sticker on the rear side
