From the introduction: Joe Fawcett Lown, with his twin Waiter, was born on 4 March 1927 in Neale Street, Tantobie, (Fawcett was their mother's maiden name). The family moved to Brick Row, Tantobie, in 1929. The twins went to Tanfield Lea School from 1932 to 1938 and then to Burnopfield School until 1941. Joe started work at Tanfield Lea Colliery on leaving school and the same year became a teacher at Bethel Chapel Sunday School...
