This book is 'Kelpie' Buchanan's account of his experiences in Italy during the Second World War.

Kelpie was born in 1920 and in 1939 he joined the Grenadier Guards, thus beginning a distinguished wartime military career. A year later he joined No.8 Commando, and trained at Loch Ailot under Lord Lovat, and after a spell with the newly formed SAS in the Middle East, he joined the Special Boat Service and took part in the Catania Raid. He later served in Palestine before transferring to Glubb's Arab Legion.

Illustrated with several small black and white photographs, this book concentrates on his experiences in Italy, and especially his role in the Catania Raid, for which he was awarded the Military Cross. He recounts his initial training and the events of the raid itself, before his capture by the Italians, his subsequent escape and the journey to freedom....

The condition of the book is generally good. The cover has one or two minor scuffs and blemishes, and some light nibbling and wear along the edges and corners, but the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
