Maui's Mittee and the General, by Irma Gerner Burns, subtitled 'A glimpse into the lives of Mr and Mrs Frank Fowler Baldwin'
Published by Ku Pa'a (Hawaii) in 1991, 170 pages. Hardback with Dust Jacket (S5599)
Frank Baldwin was born in 1878, born into one of the most prominent families Maui (the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands). He was the son of Henry Baldwin, a businessman and politician, and he rose to become a very important member of the community himself, becoming President of Kahului Railroad in 1910, and in charge of the Hawaiian Commercial Company (HC&S) when his father died a year later (He himself died in 1960). It was a time when Hawaii was becoming established as a settled and integral part of the USA, and this book offers a fascinating insight into the local history of the Hawaiian Islands during this period.... The condition of the book is generally good. The dust jacket has some minor scuffs, and some nibbling and bumping along the edges, but the spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Has an inscription in pen on the first inside page
