Brand New Book

From the inside front fly leaf: Marcher Railways is a detailed and profusely illustrated photographic history of the railways of north east Wales and Shropshire that were centred on the two border towns of Wrexham and Oswestry. Over more than 160 years the development and operation, and in many cases decline and closure, of those railways has influenced the industrial and agricultural economies of this fascinating Anglo-Welsh area.

Among the companies involved were the Shrewsbury & Chester Railway; the Wrexham, Mold & Connah’s Quay Railway; the North Wales Mineral Railway; the Chester & Holyhead Railway; the Wrexham & Minera Extension Railway; the London & North Western Railway; the Great Western Railway; the Great Central Railway and the Cambrian Railways. There were also numerous industrial systems serving the various mining, quarrying and iron & steel industries.

The authors are well-known experts in the history of the area’s railways and have developed this book from their previous successful titles Wrexham Railways and Oswestry Railways.

The book is illustrated with more than 275 monochrome photographs, many of which have never previously been published

Please note that although brand new, this book has bubbling along the extreme right hand edge of the inside pages throughout, which was caused during the publication process
