Making the Unforgettable... Unforgettable - The Arrival, Departure and Return of the Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway, by John Burden
Book published by Wessex Books in 2010, 122 pages. Paperback (N6566)
This book provides a fascinating history of the Railway line in Cornwall between Bodmin and Wadebridge, and charts its origin, development, operation and eventual closure, as well as the more recent history of the route as a heritage line. The book is illustrated throughout with lots of colour and black and white photographs and drawings.
From the rear side cover: The Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway was opened in 1834 - three years before Victoria became Queen! The Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway was the fifth oldest steam railway in the country - and possibly the world. The Bodmin and Wade bridge Railway provided the local people with a railway service two years before London! The oldest carriages on display at the National Railway Museum in York are from the Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway. They are thought to be the oldest railway passenger vehicles in existence. The board below tells us that although basic, 'a. third class ride was better than a first class walk'!
The condition of the book is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs but is clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
