Locomotives of the Benguela Railway, by J Morgan, J Bellwood and Paul Waters
Published by the British Overseas Railways Journal in 1991, 30 pages. A4 Size Booklet (N4691P1).
This fascinating booklet provides an account of the locomotives that operated on the Beguela Railway in Angola. Built in several stages in the early years of the last century to connect the Angolan port of Lobito to the eastern border town of Luau (and from their to neighbouring countries), the railway proved to be hugely important to the economy and trade of the country. Contents include:
- Tank Engines 1904-1907
- Tender Engines 1926-1930
- Garratts 1926-1930
- Post World War Two 1951-1972
- Dieselisation 1973 onwards
- C.F.B. Locomotive Livery
The booklet is illustrated throughout with lots of black and white photographs (although the quality of the photo's isn't particularly good)
The condition of the booklet is generally very good. The covers have one or two very minor scuffs, but the staple spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Their is an old price printed on the front cover, and a small price sticker on the rear side cover.
Please note this booklet was published privately, and so lacks the finish of a more proffesional publication (i.e. all photographs are of photocopy quality). But this in now way detracts from its fascinating contents!
