This book provides a comprehensive and detailed history of the Jones boatyard in the Moray Firth coastal port of Buckie....
From the introduction: This book tells the story of Jones (Buckie) shipyard from its first step in Buckie when James Jones purchased a sawmill in 1908 and the land and sheds at Ianstown from McIntosh & Sons in 1918 to its closure in 1995.
It includes a brief family history of the extensive Jones family originally from Larbert in Stirlingshire, they are well known in Scotland principally as Sawmillers and in Larbert also as Iron Founders, until 2003.
The book supplies a complete list of all the boats built with details of their owners and final destinations. It serves to demonstrate the versatility of the workforce and the dogged determi nation of the management to keep the business afloat during the most difficult economic conditions.
This is illustrated by the fact that not only were fishing boats constructed and repaired but yachts and other commercial craft built for life at sea. Indeed several of the yachts built in the 1960s & 70s are still in constant use and held in high regard by their present owners.
Condition of the book is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs and blemishes, but the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Their is an old price (printed) and a small price sticker on the rear side cover
