Jacobites of the '15, by David Dobson
Published by the Scottish Association of Family History Societies in 1993, 88 pages. A5 size booklet (S6651)
The Jacobites were the supporters of the House of Stuart between 1688 and 1746, and on several occasions during this period followers of the Stuarts rose unsuccessfully in armed rebellion against the House of Hanover. Support was particularly strong in Scotland, and in 1715 one such rebellion occured.....
Although the leaders of this rebellion are well known, much less is known about those who actively supported rising (as opposed to the 1745 uprising, which is much better documented and recorded). This booklet serves to redress a little of that inbalance, and provides a detailed list of Jacobite supporters of the '15. The list is drawn up from manuscripts and primary printed sources, and takes the form of an A to Z format (detailing hundreds of names). One entry is given below as an example of the list:
Stewart, John, subaltern in Murray's Battalion, at Preston, prisoner.
Condition of the booklet is generally ok. The cover has some minor scuffs, and some light nibbling and wear along the edges, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound
