Booklet published by the Ulster Aviation Society in 1998, 64 pages. A5 size booklet (N5647X1)

This booklet provides a fascinating short history of Belfast's City Airport, and includes chapters on early commercial services, Belfast Harbour Airport, Wartime service, Post-War days, Industrial and military use, Civil Aviation, Shorts Today, and more. As a local history society format publication, the booklet contents are interspersed with advertsiments (many from local and aviation related businesses).

From the introduction: Sydenham, Belfast Harbour Airport, RAF Belfast, HMS Gadwall, Belfast City Airport, BI-ID - the last 60 years have seen many changes of name and of function. The airfield has served in military flying training, air defence, repair and maintenance roles, has survived Luftwaffe and terrorist attacks, has been the birthplace of famous and innovative aircraft and is now a vital communications hub, not just for the people or the City or Belfast but also for those from much further afield.

De Havilland Rapide, Railway Air Services, Short Stirling, Sunderland, Sperrin, Belfast and Skyvan, Loganair, Manx, Jersey European, are merely a few of the famous names that have been associated with BHD, a litany of aviation history.

This book is a celebration of those 60 years and is dedicated not only to the visionaries and the pioneers but also to the unsung heroes, the airside and groundside staff, who by their daily efforts give life and character to this unique place, "in the heart of the City"....

The condition of the booklet is generally excellent. The cover has one or two minor scuffs but is clean and bright, the staple spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
