Healey Dell, A Hidden History, by Philip Blackshaw

Booklet published by the Whitworth Historical Society, 44 pages. A5 size spiral bound booklet (N5909X2)

This booklet provides a fascinating short history of Healey Dell, which now lies on the outskirts of Rochdale in Greater Manchester.

From the introduction: In 1997 I retired from work. Looking for things to do, I became a volunteer warden in Healey Dell, a Nature Reserve on the Rochdale boundary. Inspired by an article in the Rochdale Observer, saying that Robin Bond was having a gazetteer published of the moors above Whitworth and Wardle, I decided to try to produce a similar publication about Healey Dell. Here, I have written a brief history of the area's geology, and its local history, followed by an A to Z of the remains in the Dell itself. The gazetteer is not in any form of walking route but is simply in alphabetical order. A map is provided showing the locations of many of the items mentioned in a quite straightforward manner. The Dell has provided me with many hours of enjoyment. I hope that this booklet adds to yours as you wander around its paths.

Condition of the booklet is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs but is clean and bright, the spiral binding is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Has a small price sticker on the rear side.
