From Steam to Stern - A History of the Colne Group, by David Lester King
From Steam to Stern - A History of the Colne Group, by David Lester KingBooklet privately printed by the Port of Lowestoft Research Society in 1975, 52 pages. Booklet - c.20cm by 25cm (S8106WSOU3)
This privately produced booklet provides a fascinating history of the Colne shipping group. Please note the booklet was printed in the days before desk top publishing, and so has a very 'amateur' feel about it (i.e the text was all written on a typewriter). But none of this detracts from the fascinating contents!
From the introduction: [This booklet looks] at the history of one of the local Fishing Companies. Little has appeared in print, at least in any detail, about the history of looal fishing vessels and their owners, and it is the Society's hope that this booklet will help to fill that gap in the local records, at least as far as one group of companies is concerned. This history of the Colne group first appeared as a supplement to the fiftieth edition of the sciety's Newsletter, which was published in January 1969. It has been brought up to date to the end of October 1975.
Sections in the booklet include The Group, The Vessels, The vessels in each Company, Fleet Total year by year, and a List of Vessels.
The condition of the booklet is generally ok. The cover has several scuffs and blemishes, and some nibbling and wear along the edges and corners, and the tape covering of the staple spine has become to fray and tear, but the staple spine itself is intact, and all pages are intact and bound. There is light yellowing to the inside pages throughout.
