Published privately by the author, 70 pages. A5 size booklet. Ex-Library (S7314WSO)

Illustrated throughout with lots of black and white photographs, drawings and maps, this booklet provides a fascinating history of horse racing in and around the north of England.

From the introduction: This book is not intended to tell of the prestigious races, but tries to look more closely at how horse racing began on Tyneside and the surrounding areas. How run on business lines, things were very different on the day at Killingworth in the early 1600's, when a local gentleman had to 'bring to the plate'.

Now we only have racing on a regular basis at Gosforth and Hexham, but in the past most towns and villages had horse racing and many actually featured in the racing calendar...

The condition of the booklet is generally ok. The cover has some minor scuffs and blemishes, and some light nibbling along the edges, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and bound. This booklet is an ex-library item, and has a small area of discolouration and partially removed label in the bottom left hand corner of the front cover, and withdrawn stamps and labels on the inside front cover and second inside page.
