First Contact - A History of the 8th Battalion the Sherwood Foresters 1939-1945, by C. Housley
Book published by Miliquest, 106 pages. Paperback (N4747).
From the rear side cover: The 8th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters were a strong Territorial Battalion and had been so for many years prior to the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. They were asked to perform a task which, to say the least, would have proved just as difficult and would have had the same result if performed by regular troops.
The Territorial force was ill equipped and certainly not trained for the theatre of war into which they were thrown. That they survived the onslaught of the well trained and well equipped German forces, losing only a few of their number in killed, was little short of a miracle.
This book is the story of what the men of the 8th Battalion did, and how they managed against all the odds to delay the German Army during its invasion of Norway in 1940.
Condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, with only very light nibbling and wear along the edges and corners, the spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is a small price sticker on the rear side cover.
