Exeter News Photographs - the 1940s, by Todd Gray
Published by the Mint Press in 2007, 217 pages. Rectangular paperback, c.21cm by 27cm (N7284)

This book contains a collection of 261 photographs, many not seen since they appeared in the newspapers during the war years. Taken from two of Devon's newspapers the Western Morning News and the Express and Echo, many of the images are taken from the original glass negatives, and each photograph is accompanied by a detailed caption. A wide range of topics are covered - particularly war work, womens role in the war effort, home guard, evacuees especially from Bristol, shocking bomb damage, Polish and American servicemen, fund raising and parades, and the book will be of great interest not only to those that lived through the times but those who now live or work in Exeter or have an interest in the social history of the area...

Condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and tidy, the spine is tight and intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
