The author was born in Manchester in 1911, and his childhood was spent 'roaming round the densley populated streets surrounding the mills and factories of Gorton, Openshaw, Bradford, Beswick, Miles Platting, Collyhurst, Harpurhey, Crumpsall and Cheetham. In the 1930's, now grown up and married, he settled in Droylsden, and spent the next three decades there. In this fascinating booklet he writes about his experiences in East Manchester in the 1930's and 1940's, concluding with an account of the long hard winter of '47. Sections in the booklet include:
