From the rear side cover: This is the first in a trio of volumes dealing with the early independent bus and coach operators in the Thames valley region, drawing on over 50 years of detailed research. Each tells the stories of enterprises of varying sizes, from one-man outfits of limited duration to those that would become larger and more enduring concerns, often from the personal recollections of those who were there, but can no longer be consulted. This volume covers the largely riverside area centred on the towns of Henley and Marlow, also taking in the smaller settlements linked by transport over the years, covering developments from the pioneering days of motors through to the 1950's. The 96 pages are fully illustrated with mostly previously unpublished photos and other items, gleaned over the years, whilst the text offers a blend of Local, Social and Transport History, presented here for posterity.

The operators covered include Peppard & District /Crimson Coaches, City of Oxford, Northfield Coaches, Heather Coaches, Watlington Buses, Triumphant Bus Company, Thackray's Way, The Venture, Stonor Arms Bus/The Stonor Bus, Henley Venture Coaches, The Kingfisher, Marlow & District, and more!
