From the introduction: The following brief volume draws on all these sources, and attempts, within its limited compass, to summarise for Durham City the election results from the first election for the borough in 1678, down to the general election of 1992, as well as providing a brief biographical notice of both those who have represented the constituency in Parliament, and those whom they defeated at the elections. One advantage in studying the Durham constituency was its comparatively late enfranchisement; the reasons for this tardiness are explained in the following chapter. There follows an outline sketch of the political history of the Durham City constituency, and then a brief description of the political geography of the constituency (which has changed considerably over the period). A list of all elections is followed by an alphabetical list of parliamentary candidates. The volume has deliberately been kept as short as possible; thus footnotes to sources are not provided, but a list of further reading is attached at the end. Contents include:
Introduction
The Enfranchisement of Durham
The Electoral History of Durham City
The Geography of the City Seat
Elections
Candidates
Suggestions for Further Reading
The condition of the booklet is generally good. The covers have several minor scuffs, blemishes and creases, but the staple spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
