From the rear side cover: This is the third volume of the illustrated history of the Luftwaffe's premier fighter defence unit and covers the two final years of the war when JG 1 became the only unit to fly the He 162, Germany's wooden jet-powered emergency fighter.
Tasked with defending the skies over the Third Reich, Jagdgeschwader 1 numbered among its ranks some of the Luftwaffe's leading fighter aces, including Heinz BAr, Walter Oesau and Herbert Ihlefeld.
The book is illustrated throughout with lots of black and white photographs, and several colour drawings of German fighter aircraft, each showing the markings and camouflage of the different planes.
