Cold Comfort at the Northwich Union Workhouse

Published by the Northwich and District Heritage Society, 8 pages. Large A4 size booklet (N3647)

The Northwich Workhouse (now the Salt Museum), was built to house 300 inmates and served much of mid Cheshire, not just the town. This fascinating researched booklet provides a brief history of the workhouse, setting it in the context of Victorian Poor Law, and it offers an excellent insight into the grim conditions of the place - conditions made deliberately bad as an incentive to stay out or get out.....

Condition of the booklet is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs, but the staple spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound
