Coalville and District at War - A Newspaper History, by Jeffrey Knight
Booklet published by the Whitwick Historical Group in 1995, 76 pages. A4 size booklet (N4198P1)
Coalville is a former mining town in North West Leicestershire, and lies to the west of Charnwood Forest. This booklet collects together hundreds of excerpts and short articles published in the local newspaper (the Coalville Times) during the Seond World War, and thus provides a fascinating chronological narrative of the social history of the area during the war.
From the introduction: The end result of the book is a selection of articles and reports for each month between September 1939 and August 1945, one page for each month. In making the selection of articles, reports and adverts, for inclusion, I have tried to relate to what most typically represented events and life at that time.....
Condition of the booklet is very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs and creases, but is clean and bright, the staple spine is tight and intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound
