Clara Vale - The Story of a Pit Village, by Harry Watson

Privately published by Bernica Books in 1997, 40 pages. A4 size booklet (A4QWSO)

Clara Vale is an ex colliery village in Tyne & Wear (although before the local government reorganisation in 1974 it was in County Durham), and this booklet provides a history of the village, the local coal mine, and the people who lived and worked there. The contents include:

Earlier Days
The Crawcrook Collieries
Clara Vale is born
Clara Vale Pit 1896-1966
Life in Clara Vale
The Village School & Churches
Leisure Pursuits
Clara Vale in context

The condition of the booklet is generally good. The covers have some minor scuffs, and light wear along the edges and corners, but the staple spine is intact and all pages are intact, unblemished and bound. Please note the booklet was produced and printed privately, and so lacks the finish of a more professional publication (i.e all the photographs are photocopy quality at best). But none of that detracts from the fascinating contents!
