Bidgnorth Revisited - And other Reminiscences of National Service 1956-58, by J.E. Brown

Published privately by the author in 2011, 100 pages. A4 spiral bound booklet, with printing on one side only (N4358P1)

This booklet is a fascinating account of the author's experiences and memories of his time spent in National Service in the late 1950's, and offers a wonderful insight into what life was like for thousands of young men in the years after the Second World War, when they all had to do their National Service....
The author started his National Service with two months spent at RAF base at Bridgnorth in Shropshire. RAF Bridgnorth opened in November 1939, and served a variety of purposes over its lifetime, mostly as a recruitment and training centre, finally closing in the early 1960's, and as well as time spent their, the author was also posted to bases at Cardington, Yatesbury and Marham. The booklet includes several pages of black and white photographs, and chapters include:
  • The Summons Arrives
  • Cardington
  • Bridgnorth
  • Yatesbury
  • Marham
Condition of the booklet is generally excellent. The covers are clean and bright, the spiral binding is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. Please note the booklet was published privately, and so doesn't have the 'finish' of a professional publication - but this in no way detracts from his fascinating contents!
