An Account of the Ely and Littleport Riots in 1816
Published by the Littleport Society in 2015, 60 pages. A5 size booklet (N7710)
The Ely and Littleport riots occurred in May 1816, and were caused by high unemployment and rising grain costs, as well as the impoverished state of the country following years of conflict during the Napoleonic Wars. This booklet contains an account first written in 1893, and includes sections on the riotys themselves, as well as the subsequent trials and executions.
The condition of the booklet is generally very good. The covers have one or two very minor scuffs, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
