Ampthill in my Bones - Essays and Incidents Remembered, by Andrew Underwood

Published by Ampthill History Forum in 2005, 228 pages. Hardback with Dust Jacket (SU2WSO)

From the rear side cover: In Ampthill in my Bones, Andrew Underwood skilfully draws together both his personal and family reminiscences with a lifetime associated with Ampthill's history. Since 1944 Andrew has built up an extensive collection of photographs, artefacts and information relating to Ampthill.

The 'essays and incidents remembered', include his wartime memories; his experiences from both sides of the chalk-face in Ampthill and Bedford Modern schools; a vivid recollection of church life in AmpthiIl, Millbrook and Steppingley; together with a graphic description of his time as a National Serviceman in the Korean theatre of war.

In addition there is the first publication in full of his grandfather Mr A. E. Grimmer's account of his flying experiences from 1912 to 1915 in the Bleriot and Depersdussin planes now part of the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden.

The condition of the book is generally good. The dust jacket has several minor scuffs, and some light wear along the edges and corners (including a 1cm tear along the bottom edge in the right hand corner), but the spine is intact and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is some light creasing to a few pages along the top edge.
